Bertalan Pusztai’s Collision of Identities: Assimilation and Myth-making among Hungarian Greek Catholics examines the emergence of Hungary’s Greek Catholic communities made up of Hungarians, Romanians, and Carpatho-Rusyns in the 16th and 17th centuries, describes how the rise of nationalism in the 19th century created a new Hungarian Greek Catholic cultural identity, and shows the rebirth of Greek Catholicism in the 20th century after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
